Inheriting an IRA involves complex tax considerations—not only for individual beneficiaries, but also for estates and trusts that receive retirement accounts after the owner’s death. When mistakes occur or circumstances change, practitioners play a critical role in helping clients properly administer or transfer inherited retirement accounts to avoid unnecessary taxes and unintended consequences.
This course provides in-depth guidance on inherited retirement account rules as modified by the SECURE Act, with a focus on practical strategies for administering and transferring IRAs and other retirement assets after death. Participants will learn how to navigate post-mortem distribution rules, correct common errors, and align retirement account planning with overall estate and income tax objectives. In addition, the course emphasizes the importance of reviewing beneficiary designations and updating estate plans to reflect the latest guidance and ensure compliance.
